Animal Rescue and Humane Societies

  • Rutland County Humane Society – Ensuring a humane environment for animals through care, kindness, and community education.
  • Springfield Humane Societydedicated to improving the quality of life for animals by providing protection, compassionate care and adoption services for homeless animals.  Through public education, they advocate for a humane community by promoting responsible pet ownership and prevention of cruelty to animals.
  • TARPS – The Animal Rescue Primary goals are rescuing animals in need, investigating animal cruelty reports and illegal animal breeding facilities (puppy mills), pursuing changes in animal legislation, and promoting the need for spaying and neutering.
  • Vermont Volunteer Services for Animals (VVSA) – VVSA’s work encompasses humane legislation, senior citizens' pet programs, feral cat rehabilitation, wildlife assistance, animal adoption and the first spay & neuter assistance program in the state of Vermont.
  • Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS) – Protecting Vermont’s natural heritage through education and research designed to engage individuals and communities in the active care of their environment. Also provides wildlife services and bird rehabilitation.

The Arts

  • Cavendish Community Fund - Administers modest monetary grants for educational, cultural or artistic programs, projects or events that add significant value to the quality of life in Cavendish.
  • Fletcher Farm School for the Arts and Crafts – School dedicated to keeping folk art alive by teaching a variety of courses.
  • Green Mountain Festival Series – Group that brings a series of regional and national performers to the stage during the winter months.
  • Okemo Community Challenge – Fund that provides grants for local elementary and high schools to provide arts in education.
  • Springfield Community Players – amateur theater group located in Springfield.
  • Weston Playhouse – Serving a community of artists and audiences through a broad spectrum of dramatic works and educational programs.

Children, Education and Family Services

  • The Albert Bridge Elementary School - Serving Brownsville, Vermont.
  • Apple Blossom Cotillion – Cotillion which raises money for scholarships for students interested in a career in health care.
  • Big Brothers, Big Sisters – Matches children in need of companionship with caring and responsible adult volunteers or mentors.  Serving Windham & Bennington Counties.
  • Black River Booster Club
  • Black River Good Neighbors – Community help center, thrift shop and food shelf.
  • Black River High School Project Graduation – Alcohol free graduation celebration.
  • Boys & Girls Club - Promoting the social, educational, health, leadership and character development of boys and girls during critical periods of their growth, and inspiring and enabling all young people between the ages of 6 and 18 years old, especially those most in need, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
  • Camp TA-Kum-TA - Provides challenging, extraordinary experiences in a safe and loving environment for kids who have or have had cancer. Camp exists for Vermont children (or out-of-state children who are treated in Vermont), between the ages of 7-17, at no cost to their families.
  • CareNet Pregnancy Center - Offering hope to women facing unplanned pregnancies by providing practical help and emotional support
  • Cavendish Girl Scouts - Dedicated solely to girls, where, in an accepting and nurturing environment, girls build character and skills for success in the real world. In partnership with caring adults, girls develop qualities to serve them all their lives--like strong values, social conscience and conviction about their own potential and self-worth.
  • Cavendish Family Fund - Assisting families in need.
  • CHaD - Children's Hospital at Dartmouth - advancing pediatric health care through education, research, the improvement of clinical care, and the provision of advocacy in the interest of children and their families.
  • Chester Andover Family Center - provides a food shelf and many other emergency services for area families in need.
  • David’s House – Offering a home-away-from home for the families of children receiving treatment at Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth.
  • Green Mountain High School – Located in Chester
  • Ludlow Elementary Scholarship Fund – For students who can’t afford to pay for fieldtrips, snacks, supplies, etc.
  • Ludlow Teen Center – Providing sports, activities and opportunities to local teens.
  • The Jimmy Fund – Funds the continued research and treatment of childhood cancer.
  • The Make a Wish Foundation – Granting wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.
  • March of Dimes Vermont Chapter - Awarding grants to external organizations across the state in order to address unmet maternal and infant health needs
  • McCostis Scholarship Fund - helps to support Okemo Valley youth interested in pursuing training in alpine racing, freestyle skiing, and snowboarding.
  • New Beginnings – Serving victims of domestic and sexual violence.

  • Meals on Wheels of SEV - provides a daily hot meal to the elderly or homebound. Serving Weston and other South Eastern Vermont towns.
  • Project Feed the Thousands – Community group that provides food baskets at Thanksgiving and Christmas to those that are in need.
  • Rockingham Area Community Land Trust – Non-profit group that provides affordable housing opportunities for rental and homeownership to those who wouldn’t otherwise be able to.
  • Rutland Land Trust - Serving the community and people of limited means by creating a continuum of housing opportunities through on-going innovative development.
  • Springfield Hospital Foundation Helping Springfield Hospital to address the changing needs of its patients.
  • South Eastern Vermont Community Action (SEVCA) - enabling people to cope with, and reduce the hardships of poverty; creating sustainable self-sufficiency; and reducing the causes and move toward the elimination of poverty.

Conservation and Environmental

  • Cavendish Community and Conservation Association - Dedicated to conserving land and natural resources and to preserving historic sites within the context of sustainable economic growth.
  • Center for Biological Diversity (Northeast Lands Program) - Dedicated to the preservation of forest land in Vermont.
  • Green Mountain Club – Protecting and maintaining the Long Trail System and fostering, through education, the stewardship of Vermont’s hiking trails and mountains.
  • Habitat for Humanity – Group that builds or remodels homes and makes homeownership available to those who would not otherwise have been able to afford a home of their own.
  • Lake Ninevah Foundation - promotes a sustainable and reflective way of life by preserving the natural environment surrounding Lake Ninevah.
  • The Nature Museum at Grafton - they inspire respect, understanding and delight in the natural world.
